The Hummingbird or the Squirrel

Hummingbirds are remarkable for their ability to pivot mid-air, instantly adjusting their direction with precision. Squirrels, too, are skilled at changing course—but if you’ve ever watched one dart back and forth across a neighborhood street, you know how dangerous indecision can be.

BUMP.

Strategic pivots in business can feel uncomfortable and scary. Sometimes, they even require a shift in identity. But as we grow and gain new insights, adapting is essential—whether to better serve our current clients or to reach new ones. The key is this: once we’ve done our research and chosen to a new direction, we must commit to it with spoken clarity. Without this, we, our teams, and our businesses risk the same fate as the squirrel that hesitated one too many times.

So, when the time comes to pivot, will you move with confidence like the hummingbird? Or hesitate like the squirrel?
